This Weeks HUGE SHOUT OUT:
Ali Gardino!!
While it was a Super Strong Week @Leapfrog, there was 1 performance at Wednesday’s 200 Meter Floating Repeat Workout that truly stood out!!  While the inter group competition was tough all the way around…Ali showed Strength, Consistency and a Fearless Approach in her pace and pushing for the overall lead!!  It was My Pleasure to watch Ali as she not only pushed Mason but overtook him for a few of the repeats!  FEARLESS.  Way to Go Ail!!!  You earned this Shout Out with your EFFORTS!!

POWER RUNNING SERIES

Week 2 Workout:  If you missed Friday’s workout here’s what you missed:
     Warm Up
     1 Minute Wall Squat, 1 Minute Plank, 10 Push-Ups  
     THEN:  With a Strong Torso we carried Water Bottles up the top of the Bridge.
     FOCUS:  Keeping the Arms Engaged and Strong Posture as we ran Uphill.
     REPEAT THE SEQUENCE 8 Times.
When you encounter an obstacle…Like a Hill…Your legs have to work harder and we want to coach balancing that leg effort with the torso and your arms.  Running Efficiently is key to running on fatigued legs!  Full Body “Power Running.”

Live from The Track: Floating 200 Repeat Day! 6/10/2020

Learn…Practice…Workout

There was some great competition at The Track today for Leapfrog Traditional Speed Work! It’s always better with a group:)

Today’s workout was 12 by 200 Meter Repeat w/200 Meter “Floating” Recovery between. Although the speed part of the workout is tough…it’s actually the Floating Recovery that we really paid attention to today. Maintaining Strong Posture, Controlling Your Breath, Keeping Your Mind Focused… The details during the Active Recovery was my main focus for the runners today. It was a Strong Performance by all!!

Daddy Daughter Monday: Legs & Glutes

Daddy Daughter

PREPARE YOURSELF

Amelia and I get through the Monday of week 5 quarantine with some new leg & glute exercises to keep us challenged and engaged!

THE WORKOUT:

  • BEGIN: with simple Calf Raises (5 each leg)
  • THEN: move to some straight leg leg lifts.
  • NEXT: get on all fours for another variation of straight leg lift.
  • FINALLY: we put it all together with a compound movement to really engage the leg muscles.

All exercises are 5 reps each leg and all should be completed slowly & smoothly with control. Enjoy!!

With the current state of affairs Leapfrog still wants to provide not only structured workouts via the Daily Fitness Calendar, but we want to maintain some face time and interaction with our members!  We will be hosting VIRTUAL MEETINGS Live in the Zoom App!!  All you need to do is download the app.  I’ll send a text link so you can easily choose to join our sessions!  Aiming for 20-30 minutes daily at 4:30pm.  I will also offer some CHAT TIMES at random times throughout the day:)  Feel free to join in to share a good thought/inspiration, to vent a bit if needed and to just connect with the Leapfrog Community.  I know it’s not normal or even comfortable for some of us…but it can be fun for all of us:)  I ask you to give it a try!  There is nothing to lose!

What could be more appropriate in these times than this???  Keep moving forward…

Things are not ideal, but every storm runs out of rain, all we can do is adapt and modify, adjust our sails.  

Keeping these sayings in mind, we are sorry to have to cancel our group practices and Leapfrog Socials for the coming weeks.  IT IS NOT THE END OF THE ROAD.  We are merely adjusting our stride and changing pace:)  As we practice what we preach at Leapfrog we will offer modifications to our normal workout routine.  

If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out the Daily Fitness Calendar online through this link.  This is a great way to start your day or at least get some direction/inspiration!  ALSO:  if you haven’t checked out the Zoom App yet, may I suggest downloading it here.  It creates a virtual meeting room where we can see and hear each other from our cell phone, tablet or computer!  I will be hosting daily sessions with some opportunity for community movement while in quarantine!  Will it be a bit awkward at first?  YES!  It’s gonna be weird…it’s gonna be different…it’s gonna be funny at times…it’s gonna be worth it!  EVERY SMALL STEP…  

Thank You for keeping moving along with me!  I’m here for each and every one of you!  You may always feel free to CALL or TEXT with anything you need to share!  Times are tough…Training is tough…Friendship and Support are here!!!

This Weeks HUGE SHOUT OUT:
Dafne Garizurieta
Dafne earns this weeks SHOUT OUT for her triumphant return to practice on Friday!  Dafne not only came out to the Friday Hill Workout, she not only completed the workout, she RAN EXTRA!!!  After her 5th Hill Repeat she was feeling tired but instead of quitting or just standing to rest…Dafne practiced Active Recovery and ran an additional 1/2 mile to catch her breath before completing the Hill Workout!!  It takes a lot to keep going once you’re tired…it takes strong knowledge and fundamentals to Run Through the Fatigue!  Great Work Dafne!!

Boring Basics?  I call them Run Fundamentals:)

At Leapfrog you repeatedly hear about Breathing…Posture…Arm Position and Stride…We work on these basics constantly.  It’s our entire Monday 6a.m. practice.  I am in 100% agreement that mastering the basics is where long term success resides.  

This week we begin our gear up for our DESTINATION RACE this year in Leadville Colorado!  It’s running at it’s finest…at 10,000 feet!  It’s a great trip and we are happy to be bringing another group out for our 5th straight year!!  I mention this here because of the nature of this race and it’s dependence on strong basics.  Running at 10,000 plus feet elevation is challenging to say the least…  To say that breath control is essential would be an understatement!  As you both climb and descend…up to 13,000 feet…your posture and stride make a difference!  When the going gets difficult your “boring basics” can make all the difference!

I like to take this time to both invite you and challenge you!  I invite you to JOIN LEAPFROG 3 mornings a week for our local group practices!!  It’s here that we not only build strong fundamentals, master the basics but we also build strong friendships and supportive group dynamics. I would also like to take this opportunity to Challenge You!  SIGN UP for LEADVILLE!!!  “You ARE Stronger than you think you are!”  “You can do more than you think you can!”  Accept the challenge of running at 10,000 feet!  Is it easy???  NO.  Is it work??  YES!  Can you finish???  I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!  Take the challenge…Sign Up and I promise we will get you there…up to 13,000 and back to the FINISH LINE!!

It was a COOL Friday at the Leapfrog Social!  The beach was quiet and the waves were BIG!  No swimming for us as it was “Florida Cold” but still…the beach is Always Nice:)
